Mayor Therese Dunphy

Dear Residents,

Thank you for entrusting me with the leadership of our Village. I am excited to serve in this new manner, fostering the traditions that have made the Village such a wonderful place to live while bringing a fresh perspective on how to enhance the community. I’m fortunate to have strong, experienced leaders within the administrative team, service department, and, of course, the Silver Lake Police Department. These groups, Village Council, and I are all here for you, our residents.

For those of you who don’t know me, my husband, Gordon, and I have lived in the Village for more than 25 years. We raised our four sons – Ryan, Seth, Zach, and Will – here, giving us a true appreciation for the sense of community that makes Silver Lake so special.

While my family is full of Zips and a Triceratops, I grew up in central Ohio and graduated as Bowling Green State University Falcon with a Bachelor of Science degree in magazine journalism. I spent more than three decades in journalism, first as a newspaper editor in Delaware, Ohio, then as a B2B magazine editor working remotely for publications based throughout the Midwest and South. In years, I have been self-employed as a communication consultant, working with universities, businesses, and publications to enhance their communications.

While I am new to the role of mayor, I have been a public servant and volunteer for most of my adult life. I spent six years on Village Council, serving as finance chair over the last several years. I also spent six years on the Cuyahoga Falls City Schools Board of Education, including two years as president and three years as vice president. In addition, I have volunteered with organizations such as the Silver Lake Home and School League, Cuyahoga Falls District PTA, Instrumental Music Patrons, and St. Vincent-St. Mary Band Boosters, among others. I’m a proponent of giving back to these organizations and will bring the skills I’ve learned over the years to work as mayor.

Again, thank you for the privilege of serving Silver Lake.

Therese Dunphy
