Halloween will soon be here. There are several things to look forward to in the Village:

1. The second annual house decorating and pumpkin carving contest is underway. All details are on our website and the Village facebook page. Two prizes ($50 Amazon gift cards) will be given away in the house contest – one for “Harvest Home”, the other for “Spooky Home”. There are 6 age categories in the pumpkin carving contests. This contest is open to Silver Lake residents only. In each category the winner will receive a $25 Amazon gift card, and the runner-up will receive a $10 Amazon gift card. All prizes have been donated by the Silver Lake Police Association. Voting in both the pumpkin carving contest and the house decorating contest begins on October 26. Check our facebook page for all rules and regulations.

2. Austin Juersivich will again sponsor a haunted house at 2856 Hastings Road. Hours of operation will be from 6 pm until 10:30 pm on October 30, and possibly also on October 31. Entrance to the haunted house is free, but as Austin puts this on at his own expense, donations will be gladly accepted.

3. Silver Lake Elementary School’s Home and School League is sponsoring a Trunk or Treat night. It will be held on Thursday, October 28, from 5 pm until 7 pm at the school. Though costumes are not required, feel free to come in costume and also to decorate your car if you handing out goodies from the trunk of your car. For more information on this, contact Kendall Hudson, HSL president. I look forward to seeing you there.

4. Beggars Night in the Village will be Saturday, October 30, from 6 pm until 7:30 pm. Leave your porch light on if you will be handing out treats.
